A
LITTLE MORE ABOUT PAT MILLIKEN AND HIS MUSIC;
by fan and fellow musician, Jennifer
Terran
The
highest kind of music for me, is music that captures the bitter-sweet
dichotomy of life. In other words, music that is both mourning and
comforting.
There's nothing more beautiful to me than when an artist can reveal
that fragile, yet courageous state we are all in, called being alive!
Pat's
music, his artistry and who he is as a person captures this in a
way that is so gentle and so genuine that it is nothing short of
the grandest kind of, well, spiritual pudding. What can I say! Pat
Milliken is just an extraordinary human being. He has a tremendous
amount of love to give and he gives it abundantly through his expression.
It's just a beautiful thing to witness and be affected by. In getting
to know Pat, I've learned some very interesting things about him.
I think one of the reasons his art is so healing is because he's
been close to death much of his life. And if there's something I've
noticed about life, every negative brings back a positive equivalent
- even when it seems like you're screwed and there's no way out.
I love to know people who've been close to the edge. They laugh
harder, feel deeper and if they are living like artists they help
to bring more compassion into this world, like Pat does so well.
Although
I prefer to hear Pat in a focused setting, I've also seen him transform
rooms of noise and clutter into mystical realms of joy. But that's
what love
can do. That's what giving can do. I think people respond to Pat
because he has depth, because he has modesty and it's damn refreshing
and it's damn beautiful. He is an artist of soul and I believe his
commitment to this purpose makes the world a much better place!
