Experiencing
loneliness in your intimate relationship?
Feeling
disconnected to your life partner, your family, or yourself?
Therapy
can help.
Using
the PLISSIT model, taught to me many years ago by sex
therapist Lonnie Barbach, I offer my clients, as needed,
a combination of:
PERMISSION,
to try new things, to be who they are, to speak their
truth
LIMITED
INFORMATION, such as how the sexual response cycle works,
for example, or how the aging process may affect desire.
SPECIFIC
SUGGESTIONS, such as using "I statements"
to talk about our feelings in a more effective manner
and
INTENSIVE
THERAPY, using such techniques as Gestalt empty chair
work, or guided relaxation, to delve into family of
origin issues.
I
offer both BRIEF THERAPY, which usually lasts several
sessions or several months, while we focus on one or
two particular issues, and also LONG TERM COUNSELING,
which may last a year or more, when assistance and support
with deeper, ongoing healing is needed.
Call
for a brief complimentary telephone consultation to
see if we are a good match for working together. If
it appears that you need a therapist with a different
style, I am a good source of referrals for other professionals
in the field.
About
Karen
Karen
Leah Krulevitch, M.A. is a licensed Marriage and Family
Therapist who has been living in Santa Barbara
County since 1972. She has been in the counseling field
for over 30 years and has held California M.F.T. licensure
since August 1980.
Working out of her rustic cottage offices in an historic
part of downtown Santa Barbara on charming Brinkerhoff
Avenue, Karen specializes in the issues of healthy sexuality
for women and heterosexual and same sex couples. Clients
report that they feel safe and relaxed here, and lots
of good emotional work gets done. She has many years'
experience in helping Adults Molested as Children (A.M.A.C.),
as well as the male and female partners of sexual abuse
survivors.
In
her long career as a mental health professional, Karen
has also helped her many clients address such issues as
improving communication skills, gaining assertiveness,
building self-esteem, and dealing with depression and
anxiety, as well as coping with loss and the grieving
process. Most recently, Karen has developed a special
interest in guiding men and women with chronic illness,
especially Rheumatoid Arthritis, to new ways of healing
their physical and emotional pain.
Karen's fee is $150 per therapeutic hour (and will accept
sliding scale fee for clients in need). She currently
accepts Blue Cross insurance, h.m.o and p.p.o. She is
an excellent community resource for support/therapy groups,
as well as individual psychotherapy and couples' counseling.
While many of her clients think of her as their "feelings
doctor" and return periodically for ' emotional tune
ups', she also offers short-term therapy as well.
Karen's approach is warm and empathetic, yet gently confrontive
or directive when needed. Her style is eclectic, having
been trained in Gestalt therapy, Rogerian active listening,
and client-centered techniques.
Please call Karen Krulevitch for a brief (ten minutes)
free-of-charge consultation, and to make an appointment.
Some evening and Saturday sessions are available.
