What
is Reiki?
The
system of Reiki is a method of working with energy that allows
your body to clear itself leaving you feeling lighter, healthier
and happier.
In
Japanese Rei means Spiritual or Sacred
and ki means Life Force Energy, so Reiki
literally is ‘Spiritual Life Force Energy.’ Drawing
upon this subtle energy is a natural and safe method of spiritual
healing and self-improvement that anyone can use. It has been
effective in helping virtually every known illness. It works in
conjunction with medical or other therapeutic techniques to promote
recovery.
Reiki
can assist your own natural healing, and help you to relieve pain,
fear and anxiety. It is helpful in letting go of old habits and
patterns and at times of change. Reiki is not a religion; it does
not have any dogma or require beliefs. It is a simple method of
connecting with the incredible, yet gentle Spiritual Life Force
Energy.
Professional
Treatments
The
process is simple. You lie fully clothed and covered on a comfortable
massage table. There may be candles lit and soft music playing.
The practitioner conducts Reiki energy by placing hands lightly
on or near your body. You may feel tingles, warmth or emotional
release as the Reiki energy flows into your body.
The
most common experience during a Reiki session is a sense of deep
peace and relaxation combined with a pleasant feeling of security.
You may see visual images or colors, or receive insights. Often,
a series of sessions results in positive life changes affecting
well being. Reiki works together with medical or other therapeutic
techniques to aid healing; it is not a substitute for medical
or psychological diagnosis or treatment.
Fees:
$75 for 1 hour session · $100 for 1 hour out call/hospital

History
of Reiki

Over
100 years ago in the Japanese city of Kyoto, a man devised a unique
spiritual practice that supported his personal healing and the
healing of others.
His
name was Usui.
Esoteric Japanese teachings that focused on enlightenment formed
the foundation of this practice. On moving to the West, however,
the teachings were altered. They were adjusted to suit the American
culture, and evolved into a diversity of practices today known
as Reiki.
Now
painstaking research into the spiritual teachings of Usui undertaken
by Bronwen and Frans Stiene, founders of the International House
of Reiki, makes it possible to return to the early teachings of
Usui. The Stienes’ research included visits to Japan to
develop their understanding of the culture and consolidate study
and relationships with traditional Japanese teachers. The Stienes
offer teachings called Usui Reiki Ryoho, or literally
Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method.
Bronwen
and Frans Stiene jointly authored the critically acclaimed books,
The Japanese Art of Reiki and The Reiki Sourcebook,
to document their research. They also maintain a comprehensive
website with a wealth of information at: www.reiki.net.au
Training
Bette Briggs trained in Reiki Levels 1-3 with Reiki Master Donna
Gaus, following the approach documented by Frans and Bronwen Stiene,
and took Shinpiden Level III with Frans Stiene. Shinpiden is the
Japanese word for Mystery Teachings and is known as the Master/Teacher
level in the West. In her classes she utilizes these early teachings
of Usui.
