Psychotherapist,
Massage Therapist, Energy Healer & Holistic Health Counselor
 Marie
Basso was born and raised in Lima, Peru and came
to America thirty-years ago. She was blessed to be born in
Peru where she lived in a dichotomy of intellectualism and
the magical world of the land. Marie understood early on that
there was more to life than her family was able to see or
appreciate. Living in two worlds simultaneously taught her
to hold polarities, which is a gift when working with her
clients.
Marie
has been preparing for her healing work since she was a child.
Her first teacher was the cook who worked in her house and
healed people through ritual, herbs, readings, and connection
with the spirit world. Later on, Marie studied psychodynamic
psychology as part of her training in the healing professions.
She realizes now that she has been training in different healing
modalities as way to become the kind of healer she was meant
to be in this lifetime. Some of these modalities are: flower
essences, essential oils, meditation, and nutrition to name
a few.
Marie
is a Marriage and Family psychotherapist; a bodyworker/massage;
energy healer; and Holistic Health Counselor. She has
experience working with individuals, adults, couples, families,
and children. Marie has a private practice in downtown Santa
Barbara where she helps clients reach their full potential.
Presently, she is working with adults and adolescents who
are willing to be responsible for their own healing.
Please,
check her
website to learn more about the way she works and
whether this would be a good fit for you or someone you care
about.
Coaching
Coaching
helps people achieve a desired goal or goals. An individual
may seek coaching as a way to get motivated to start a new
career or business. Together with the therapist, a plan of
action is designed so the person can take the steps to fulfill
his or her dream.
Many
times, clients experience resistances or blockages to achieving
their goal. On one hand, they have self-destructive behaviors
and/or negative thinking that prevents achieving the goal.
On the other hand, they have the dream asking for the opportunity
to become a reality. They find themselves in the middle and
do not have the tools or understanding to move forward.
My
job is to help the individual move through these blocks by understanding
what is going on with him or her. I obtain information from
the client about his or her family to create a "genogram."
Psychotherapy
People
come to therapy for many reasons. Sometimes we feel lost
or disconnected from others and ourselves. There could be
a vague or a strong feeling that we are not okay as we are
and want to live a more fulfilling life.
Perhaps
there was a recent crisis, such as the death of a love one,
divorce, and we need to process the loss in a safe place.
Sometimes we have interpersonal problems at home or at work
or in both places that interfere with our well-being.
The
wounds may come from childhood and are deep and painful. Many
of us grew up in homes with emotional ill parents who did not
have the tools to deal with everyday stresses and handled their
emotions by abusing alcohol or/and drugs. It is possible to
have experienced physical, verbal, emotional, and sexual abuse
by those the person loved and trusted and also by strangers.
Holistic
Health
In
Spanish there is a word "curandera" that
fits perfectly my description of what a holistic health
practitioner is about. A curandera or healer is a person who
practices a variety of healing modalities to restore balance
to a person's life. Here, I bring all my studies and passion
under one roof. My psychological background, experience in
bodywork, Energy work and knowledge of muscle testing, nutrition,
meditation, and more.
I
keep learning and expanding as a healer and I am presently
studying herbology with Rosemary
Gladstar. I have plans for the near future to learn acupressure
and iridiology. I strongly believe that healing takes place
on many levels.
While
working with my clients, I have realized that many of
them could improve by receiving professional massage. Touch
is important for us at many levels. Babies who are deprived
of touch are not able to thrive as well as babies who grow
up in loving homes. Receiving bodywork by caring professionals
has helped many individuals with issues such as anxiety, depression,
physical discomfort, Cancer, and sexual issues. This kind
of work helps decrease sexual aversion in people who were
sexually abused as children. The importance of appropriate,
safe, and caring touch cannot be emphasized enough in this
work.
I
learned Holistic Massage Therapy at the World School of Massage
and Healing Arts in San Francisco. My specialty is in Swedish
massage, Vibrational Bodywork, and Reflexology. I have studied
Cranio-Sacral and Lymphatic massage. Depending on the client's
needs and wants I may incorporate two or more techniques during
the session. I have taken Reiki from different masters to
deepen the work and help move stagnant energy.
