We Are Mercury Safe!

But what does that mean?

Although dental amalgam continues to be a commonly used restorative material, many people do not realize that “silver” amalgam fillings are 50% mercury. Constant pressure from chewing and grinding as well as everyday changes in temperature cause dental fillings to break down. As the metal in these restorations deteriorates, mercury vapor is released into your body. Concern has been raised as to the possible adverse effects of mercury vapor on overall health.

In Dr. Sargissian’s experience, 90% of the amalgam fillings he removes have decay under them. Replacing amalgam fillings with biocompatible materials not only eliminates mercury vapor but also provides a better filling. At Ashwood Dental, Cerac CAD/CAM technology allows us to do same-day restorations. Amalgam is replaced with BIS-GMA and BPA-Free Porcelain or resigns. During treatment we take extreme precaution to minimize mercury exposure. Rubber dams and goggles provide physical barriers against mercury vapor and Chlorella rinse attempts to chelate as much mercury as possible. Pure oxygen is provided and every room is filtered for mercury particles both during and after amalgam removal. Your finished Porcelain or resign restoration expands and contracts at almost equal rates as the natural tooth and is the same natural white color as your teeth.

CEREC

With CEREC technology, only one visit is required to do a permanent restoration! This means no temporary treatments, multiple injections of anesthesia, or repeat visits. Not only is this more convenient for you, but the materials used are healthier and bio-friendly:
Highly durable, metal-free, color-matched ceramic materials.
Materials closely match natural tooth composition; the restoration and tooth expand and contract at almost equal rates.
Materials are chemically bonded to the tooth, saving as much healthy tooth tissue as possible, and resulting in a restoration that strengthens your tooth.
CEREC can be used for more than just crowns and fillings. Any single-tooth restoration can be achieved, including treatment for chipped or discolored front teeth.

Invisalign

Properly aligned teeth can help you avoid the negative effects of periodontal disease by making it easier to have healthy gums and improved oral hygiene. Invisalign uses a series of custom-made aligners created specifically for you. They are made of virtually invisible plastic and fit comfortably over your teeth. No metal brackets or wires! Every two weeks, you use the next set of aligners to gently and gradually straighten your teeth until your treatment is complete.

About Dr. Sargissian

Dr. Sargissian graduated in 1996 from the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at University of the Pacific, San Francisco. In 2000, he and his family came to live in Ventura, and Dr. Sargissian established Ashwood Dental Office. Since then, he has been committed to keeping abreast of new information and utilizing the latest innovations available, and Ashwood Dental has been providing the people of Ventura with superior dental care.

Dr. Sargissian is dedicated to putting into practice the best dentistry has to offer. From clear Invisalign braces to digital x-rays, and implant placement to CEREC same-day crowns, he has made sure that Ashwood Dental has always stayed on the cutting edge of technology. In addition, he is diligent in protecting his patients’ overall health by utilizing the most bio-friendly materials and technologies available; Dr. Sargissian and Ashwood Dental have made every effort to maintain a “green practice” and provide a “mercury-safe” facility.
Furthering his education, in 2004 Dr. Sargissian received his Master’s Degree in clinical psychology. This has provided him with an excellent understanding of patients’ individual needs when receiving their dental care.
