with Aparna Khanolkar
Aparna
Khanolkar is an Ayurvedic personal chef, caterer and teacher
of Ayurvedic cooking classes who now offers her services
in the Santa Barbara area. She has worked in North County
San Diego since 2004 where she taught Ayurveda workshops,
Indian and healthy cooking classes, and worked as the main
chef at the Chopra Center for Well-Being in Carlsbad, Ca.
and has catered for their Perfect Health, Soul of Healing
and Yoga retreats. She taught Ayurvedic cooking classes
and worked as a part-time chef at the prestigious Chopra
Center for Living in Rancho Santa Fe.
As
a personal chef, she specializes in preparing healthy and
balancing foods using Ayurvedic principles for individuals.
Foods are prepared using fresh, organic ingredients purchased
from local farmers that are best suited for the body/mind
type of the client. Thus what she prepares for each client
is truly a personalized meal.
Aparna
offers catering services to local yoga studios and also
cooks for parties and celebrations. She is available to
travel with your yoga retreat to prepare healthy vegetarian
and vegan foods. Aparna teaches private and group Ayurvedic
and Indian cooking classes every month in Santa Barbara.
Aparna
has worked as a postpartum doula for four years now. She
received her training at the Center for Childbearing Year
in Ann Arbor, MI. She incorporates Ayurvedic principles
into her practice to assist new mothers and families transition
into their roles more effortlessly and with ease. She is
experienced in providing breastfeeding support, and preparing
special nourishing meals for the new mother to help her
strengthen and recuperate from childbirth. Aparna finds
this work deeply fulfilling as she believes that she has
the special skill of "mothering the new mother. She
is available to massage infants and loves to teach new parents
this simple yet deeply parent-baby bonding practice. Ayurvedic
infant massage uses sesame oil for its health benefits and
is an ancient Indian practice that tones and strengthens
all organs and aids the baby in sleeping and proper digestion.
Aparna has massaged over 50 babies along with her own two,
who she continues to massage at ages 8 and 4 years.

Aparna

Her emphasis is on healthy vegetarian cooking using ancient
time-tested Ayurvedic principles. She teaches healthy vegetarian
and Ayurvedic cooking classes and caters for retreats and
yoga events. Aparna worked as the main chef at the Chopra
Center for Well-Being in Carlsbad, Ca and also managed a
successful personal chef and postpartum doula practice in
San Diego. She is the author of the book, “A Mother’s
Blessing” – an Ayurvedic perspective on caring
for new mothers.
Aparna
supports local farmers and uses only fresh, organic and
seasonal produce for her cooking. Her belief is that the
human body/mind is most harmonious when it is aligned with
the laws of the universe. Her premise is that when the human
body/mind is healthy, then the planet can also be healthy.
And since eating is a primary function for survival and
also pleasure, Aparna strives to teach people to cook and
eat in balance, while respecting the needs of the planet
while enhancing one’s own well-being and happiness.
Aparna has two children 8 and 4, both of whom love to grow
vegetables, eat and cook.
